Description of the 3-weekend Training Clinic to prepare Le Centaure

The 3-weekend training clinic is designed to prepare participants for the Le Centaure raid, a unique experience that combines riding and orienteering in challenging terrain and weather. This raid requires not only solid equestrian skills, but also the ability to navigate with precision in changing and unfamiliar environments.

Objectives of the Clinic:


Advanced Equestrian Skills: During the program, participants will improve their riding skills, focusing on effective communication with the horse and adaptation to different terrains. Posture, balance and coordination will be covered to achieve optimal control of the horse in various conditions.


Orientation Techniques: Essential orientation skills will be taught and practiced, such as reading topographic maps, using compasses. Participants will learn to apply these techniques to successfully navigate through unfamiliar terrain during the raid.

Physical Training and Resistance: Physical conditioning and cardiovascular training exercises designed specifically for the participants will be carried out. Physical endurance is crucial to meet the challenges of the raid, which combines riding and orienteering over long distances.


Raid Tactics and Strategies: Participants will receive guidance on how to combine riding and orienteering skills to tackle different segments of the raid. Pace management strategies, choice of routes and adaptation to unforeseen changes in the terrain will be discussed.


Mental Preparation: The Le Centaure raid requires a strong and adaptable mindset. Participants will learn techniques to stay calm under pressure, make decisions and maintain a positive attitude in complex situations.

Program:
Day 1: Equestrian Fundamentals and Orientation Basics
1. Assessment of equestrian and orienteering skills.
2. Introduction to riding technique on varied terrain
3. Basic knowledge of reading maps and compasses
4. Presentation of the Le Centaure raid and its focus on orientation

Day 2: Integration of Skills and Resistance
Advanced riding techniques and orienteering in challenging terrain
1. Physical training and endurance for participants.
2. Team navigation and decision-making strategies
3. Mental preparation and stress management

Day 3: Simulation and Complete Preparation
1. Competition simulation.
2. Review and adjust raid strategies based on experience
3. Practice adapting to changing conditions and overcoming obstacles
4. Concentration and visualization sessions for the competition

Dates and Costs:

  • Day 1: Saturday 18 November in Prats de Lluçanès. Cost €50 training + catering costs

  • Day 2: Weekend 16 and 17 December. Cost €80 training + catering and overnight expenses

  • Day 3: Weekend 13 and 14 January 2024. Cost €80 training + catering and overnight expenses

- If you sign up for the 3 sessions, the training cost will be €150
